Seems some in Nantucket decided put their sherry down and head into town to greet President Biden and First Lady Jill Biden as they headed into the Brotherhood of the Thieves restaurant. The White House pool report from Friday afternoon stated: “As POTUS and FLOTUS walked up Broad Street there were large groups of people gathered. Some protesters — maybe a handful — yelled ‘Free Palestine’ and “Ceasefire.'”The pool reporter added, “many other people were cheering.”At 2:42 p.m., the Bidens walked into the restaurant named after a riot on the island in 1842 after abolitionists objected to the town’s continued refusal to integrate the schools. Family lunch, some shopping, a Christmas tree lighting: President Joe Biden’s day out in Nantucket

NANTUCKET, Mass. (AP) — It wasn’t all work and no play for President Joe Biden on Friday on this picturesque Massachusetts island. He spent much of the day in multiple briefings with national security aides, who were updating him as the first phase of hostages were released in Gaza earlier Friday. Biden then delivered brief remarks on the hostage deal, saying it is “only a start, but so far, it’s gone well.”But then the president joined in the traditional Biden day-after-Thanksgiving festivities – lunch with his family, perusing local shops and mingling with the Nantucket crowd as the town Christmas tree is lit.Because of the remarks on hostages, the traditional family lunch happened later than usual. But like always, it was at Brotherhood of Thieves, a cozy bar and grill that advertises itself as an “1840s whaling bar.”Then the president’s shopping outing began. His first stop was just a couple doors down from the restaurant at Nantucket Books, where first lady Jill Biden and daught...

Prep Bowl: Saturday’s football state championship game predictions

Published Tue, 04 Mar 2025 07:24:07 GMT

A look at Saturday’s high school football championship games at U.S. Bank Stadium:CLASS 5AChanhassen (12-0) vs. St. Thomas Academy (10-2), 4 p.m.So many times St. Thomas Academy has knocked on the door of winning its first state title since 1975, only to fall just short. But this year’s team -— led by star running back Savion Hart, who is perfectly complemented by a Max Sims and Luke Dobbs passing combination — may be dynamic enough to push the Cadets over the finish line. But as great as the Cadets’ offense is, the defense must find a way to slow down Chanhassen’s Max Woods, who joins Hart in the group of the state’s top running backs. This game has shootout written all over it, and will likely come down to which defense can muster up those one or two stops to determine the outcome. OUR PICK: St. Thomas Academy 41, Chanhassen 38CLASS 3AStewartville (13-0) vs. Annandale (12-0), 1 p.m.Annandale has proven itself to be a great team that grinds out and fin...

P.J. Fleck’s corner office at the Larson Football Performance Center has two gray cloth chairs facing his desk, and when the double doors are open, players can sit there to chat with the Gophers head coach.Mo Ibrahim was such a regular visitor during his six seasons at the U that his routine became known as “Mo Mondays.” Tyler Nubin has dropped in so often over his five seasons that Fleck jokes Nubin should wear an “assistant head coach” name tag.Chris Autman-Bell and Brevyn Spann-Ford have also nestled into those armchairs during seven- and six-year careers at the U. With Fleck, they have — of course — talked football and how each of those two players has had senior seasons that have fallen short of personal and team goals. But conversation topics veer elsewhere, too. Spann-Ford mentioned conversations about the stock market, and Autman-Bell referenced the importance of international travel.“When you go to other places, other countries, you see how small you are,” Autman-Bell said h...
