Why can’t a European leader express full support for Israel in the face of Hamas barbarity?

Published Fri, 21 Feb 2025 17:15:02 GMT

Ursula von der Leyen, and Roberta Metsola visited kibbutz Kfar Aza where Hamas committed a massacre. Why is support for the State of Israel in the face of the Nazi barbarism of Hamas terrorists who came from Gaza to massacre Israelis and other innocent citizens of various countries on 7 October the subject of such controversy and criticism when it is so obvious, writes Yossi Lempkowicz. This is the question I ask myself in view of the positions taken in some European circles and in some media after the visit to Israel of European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen the day after the massacre, accompanied by European Parliament President Roberta Metsola, who came to express Israel’s “right and even duty to defend and protect its population” and to call for the release of all the hostages kidnapped by Hamas. They also expressed their horror after visiting Kibbutz Kfar Aza, where babies, children, women and the elderly were murdered in a manner unimaginable by any normal human being...

It’s all about the pumpkins at Silicon Valley nonprofits celebration

Published Fri, 21 Feb 2025 17:15:02 GMT

The Silicon Valley Council of Nonprofits’ annual Be Our Guest luncheon has earned a reputation over the years as the premier fall networking event for that sector. Sometimes, though, I suspect the real reason hundreds of people show up every year isn’t to rub elbows with State Sen. Dave Cortese or PG&E Vice President Teresa Alvarado but to see what kind of pumpkin they brought. The luncheon’s pumpkin-decorating contest is an annual bounty of creativity by elected officials, nonprofit and business leaders, and this year’s outdoor event at Excite Ballpark was no exception. There were three jack o’lanterns with a “Barbie” theme, a couple of nods to the SAG-AFTRA strike in Hollywood, a blowfish with candy corn spines, a shiny “Steampumpkin” and even a replica of the San Jose City Hall rotunda made by the newshounds at San Jose Spotlight. Cortese and Alvarado didn’t disappoint, either: He brought a fun overalls-wearing Minion...

And once the Sharks got a closer look at this month’s schedule – with one playoff-caliber opponent lined up after another – there was little doubt that they were going to be hit hard with adversity. But this 0-7-1 start by the Sharks had to have surpassed anyone’s greatest fears. The Sharks have scored eight goals in eight games, tied for the third-fewest by any team since the center red line was introduced in 1943-44.They’ve been shut out in back-to-back games for the first time since Jan. 2014.They’re currently on their longest scoring drought — seven-and-half periods — in over 16 years. There are trust issues within the group. And no one quite knows when this will end, both the losing streak and this rebuild as a whole. So, what happens now?General manager Mike Grier has been transparent about where the Sharks are as an organization. No one was kidding themselves thinking th...

Rutte doesn’t rule out NATO post

Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte said today that he doesn’t rule out taking on the position of head of the NATO defense alliance. The post of NATO secretary-general is “very interesting,” Rutte said on Dutch radio on Saturday. Rutte, who plans to leave domestic politics after the Dutch election in November, following his government’s collapse in July, has previously said he wasn’t interested in taking on such a large international role as the NATO leader. But on Saturday, Rutte said being chief of the defense alliance would mean he “could still contribute.” Rutte, one of Europe’s longest-serving leaders, has been linked with a number of top jobs, including the NATO post. Jens Stoltenberg, who has been the head of NATO since 2014, over the summer agreed to stay on in the position until October 2024.

We stay dry, and won’t notice the drop in temperatures until overnight and tomorrow. An area of low pressure will form and ride along the front bringing us rain tomorrow and Monday. It’s a 50/50 weekend. The bright start and mild overnights lows have been a great launching pad to get us into the upper 70s/low 80s. Overnight we fall into the upper 40s/low 50s. Target the morning hours tomorrow. We’re mainly dry with a few sprinkles. Showers arrive by midday/afternoon and linger the rest of the day. It’ll rain most of Monday, but clear out for Halloween. Temperatures will be much cooler in the upper 40...
