DOVER, Del. (AP) — The Democrat-controlled state Senate voted along party lines Tuesday to pass a bill requiring anyone in Delaware wanting to buy a handgun to first be fingerprinted, undergo training and obtain permission from the state. The vote came after more than two hours of debate in which gun-control advocates argued that the proposal will help reduce the number of homicides and suicides in Delaware. Opponents argued that the bill infringes on the rights of law-abiding citizens and will have no effect on criminals responsible for the state’s gun violence problem.Chief sponsor Sen. Elizabeth Lockman, suggested, however, that even criminals will obey the permit requirement if the bill becomes law.“Best of all, we know that every handgun owner in our state will have undergone a firearms training course,” said Lockman, a Wilmington Democrat, adding that such training will reduce the numbers of accidental shootings, suicides and gun thefts. Mets game vs. Tigers rained out for third time in last four days

Published Wed, 05 Mar 2025 01:21:15 GMT

DETROIT — For the third time in four days, the Mets are underwater. After two postponements over the weekend in New York, the Mets went to Detroit hoping for better weather. But with rain and possibly even snow in the forecast, the first game of the three-game set at Comerica Park was postponed. The two teams will play a split doubleheader Wednesday with the first game starting at 1:40 p.m. and the second at 6:40 p.m.The last thing the Mets wanted or needed was a doubleheader after playing one Monday. The bullpen is thin after having to cobble together more than eight innings of relief in the first game against the Atlanta Braves on Monday and they needed three to get through the second game.If their starters can go deep on Wednesday, it would alleviate the pressure on the bullpen. Joey Lucchesi is lined up to start the first game and Max Scherzer will start the second. This week will mark the returns of Scherzer and Justin Verlander. Scherzer hasn’t pitched since April 19...
